Mark Boucher to step down as coach after T20 World Cup 2022

Mark Boucher is set to step down as head coach of South Africa. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman said that he will quit the role following the conclusion of the upcoming T20I World Cup in Australia.

Former South African cricketer was appointed as the head coach of the national side in December 2019. During his tenure, the Proteas made some steady advancements in their Test approach, especially in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

On Monday, September 12, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that Boucher will tender his resignation after next month’s T20I World Cup in Australia. The board stated that he has decided to pursue other opportunities in line with his future objectives.

Following the sudden announcement, CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe said:

“We are deeply saddened by Mark’s decision to leave us but we also understand and respect his wishes. He is a Proteas legend and has done so much for the game in our country, both on the field and over the last three years off it, which we highly appreciate.”

CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki also expressed his gratitude towards the former cricketer for his contributions as head coach of the side. He said:

“We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has invested in South African cricket as the Head Coach over the past three years.”

The CSA further added in their report that they will announce their intentions in regards to Boucher’s successor in due course.
