Aaron Finch’s glittering ODI career came to a conclusion following the conclusion of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. His farewell game ended in a victory for his side, courtesy of Steve Smith’s remarkable ton.

After the match, the opening batter gave his view on Australia’s series-sweeping win over New Zealand. The cricketer also revealed what his ODI retirement means to him.

Finch thanks family following ODI exit

After the match, the 2015 World Cup-winning alumnus thanked his family for supporting him through his cricketing journey. The 35-year-old also added that he is glad he would not have to field for 50 overs anymore.

Finch also praised Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne for their match-winning efforts against New Zealand in his swansong ODI. The two batsmen formed a 118-run third-wicket stand, after the hosts had lost both their openers within the first six openers of the match. Finch himself could manage just five runs in his final ODI innings.

“Pretty good, glad I don't want to field 50 overs anymore. My family has sacrificed so much for me to achieve all that I have, always grateful for that. There's just so many people to thank, everyone who's been there for me since club cricket. I'm super thankful for my wife and kids to stick with me through all my ups and downs. Will always be grateful to them.

“The partnership between Steve and Marnus was brilliant, to get to 260 after one of the slowest starts was just amazing. Our bowling has been good, everyone has contributed.”

The cricketer will continue to lead Australia in T20Is. His next assignment features a three-match trip to India later this September. He is also slated to lead his side in their title-defence campaign at the T20 World Cup at home next month.
