In the latest development, Cricket South Africa has refused the England and Wales cricket boards' (ECB) proposal to add an extra day to the 3rd Test at the Oval between the two nations.

The 2nd day of the Oval Test was suspended by the ECB following the unfortunate demise of 'Her majesty' Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, September.

On Friday, the ECB met with a host of government and officials of the other sporting bodies before announcing that all the fixtures will go ahead as per schedule from Saturday.

The ECB also held discussions with their Cricket South African counterparts to cajole them into adding another day to the Test match. However, CSA couldn't accede to the request citing logistic reasons.

As a result, the series-decider has now been reduced to a three-day affair, with 98 overs delivered daily.

Why CSA refused ECB's request to add an extra day to the Oval Test?

The reasoning behind Cricket South Africa's refusal to add another day to the Test match is that it will leave the visitors with less time at home before they embark on the tour of India.

The South African squad is set to leave the UK on Tuesday; a day after the Test was originally set to culminate.

The Proteas are scheduled to visit India for three ODIs and as many T20Is, which will take place between September 28-October 11.

They will then travel directly to Australia to take part in the T20 World Cup.

For the uninitiated, the opening day of the Oval Test was washed out without a single ball being delivered due to persistent rain before England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first.
