'Win the toss and win the match' - this has been the policy almost all the teams went with at Asia Cup 2022, held in UAE this year.

Chasing sides have gone on to win five out of the seven Asia Cup 2022 matches at the Dubai International Stadium, reflecting how it played a huge role in determining the outcome of the matches so far in the continental tournament.

Captains winning the toss never had two thoughts while opting to field first in UAE or precisely at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, as evident by the results in the two editions of the IPL that were played here or, the T20 World Cup staged last year.

Team India's recent successive losses against the arch-rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super-4, which saw them getting knocked out of the tournament were also partially influenced by the toss factor with both Babar Azam and Dasun Shanaka opting to bat second against Men in Blue.

Hopefully, toss will not play a factor in Australia: Rohit Sharma

Since the ball comes on to the bat better under the light in the second half of the game, and the onset of dew further makes things difficult for the team defending the total, the captains claiming the toss unequivocally opts to bat second.

Weighing in on the same, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma said he is hoping that toss would not play a pivotal role in the outcome of the game in the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be played in Australia next month.

Rohit Sharma opened up on the toss factor during the conversation with Virat Kohli, who was adjudged India’s player of the match against Afghanistan on Thursday (September 8) courtesy of his 71st international hundred.

“Hopefully, the toss will not play a factor there, and we will just bring our best in Australia.”

Notably, the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup was meant to be played in Sri Lanka this year, but had to be moved to the UAE due to the political and economical crisis in the Island nation.
