Team India's star pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar achieved an unprecedented record in the shortest format as he surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become the highest wicket-taker for team India in T20 Internationals.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar achieved this feat during India's final fixture or rather a dead rubber against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, 8 September.

The 32-year-old was at his lethal best as he went on to grab a five-wicket haul in his full quota of four overs while conceding just four runs. The Indian pacer has now 84 wickets in 77 T20I matches while Chahal stands second in the tally with 83 wickets.

Most Wickets For India in T20Is

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 84 (77 Matches)
  • Yuzvendra Chahal: 83 (66 Matches)
  • Jasprit Bumrah: 69 (59 Matches)
  • Ravichandran Ashwin: 65 (56 Matches)
  • Hardik Pandya: 54 (70 Matches)

Bhuvneshwar, following his five-wicket haul against Afghanistan, has now become the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing continental tournament with 11 wickets in five matches.

The Meerut born has been at the centre of stern criticism following his dreadful penultimate over spell against arch-rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which saw team India succumbing in the last over.

As far as the match is concerned, team India, rode on Virat Kohli's sensational century knock to post a mammoth target of 212 runs for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

The interim captain KL Rahul also looked in a good rhythm, having charted off a phenomenal half-century. At the time of the writing, Afghanistan is languishing at 63 for seven in 15 and from here on it is next to impossible for them to hunt down the target.
