ENG vs SA: Dean Elgar feels the 3rd Test is like a World Cup Final

South Africa skipper Dean Elgar thinks the third and final Test fixture against England at Kennington Oval will be equivalent to a World Cup Final.

The first game of the series saw South Africa winning by an innings & 12 runs. Then, the hosts produced a fightback to level the series 1-1 by securing victory by an innings & 85 runs.

Furthermore, the Proteas are currently in the second position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. If they manage to prevail over England, they will be topping the points table and enhancing their claim for the WTC Final next year.

Elgar reckoned that the third game is the biggest Test match of his captaincy stint, and wants the players to be hungry to get a win and end the tour with a series victory.

"Going into the Test 1-1, it's pretty much like a World Cup final for us. That's the way I'm viewing it. We're going in with a result in mind and we're going to give our best effort for that. We can't control the weather but I'm pretty confident there will be a result in this game," said Elgar.

The reliable run-scorer in the Proteas batting unit, Rassie van der Dussen will be unavailable for the third Test due to injury. In place of him, Ryan Rickelton is likely to fill his boots in this fixture.

The 26-year-old slammed 539 runs in four innings of the County Championship 2022 for Northants.

Furthermore, Marco Jansen can also mark his presence in the Playing XI as well after replacing Simon Harmer.
