India's bowling in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 lacked spark and aggression, mainly in their losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage.

Coach Rahul Dravid and Team India think tank preferred youngsters over experience in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.

After last night's defeat against Sri Lanka, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has questioned the management over team selection for the six-nation event.

More specifically, Shastri raised eyebrows over Mohammed Shami's omission from the T20 squad, who last played T20I for India in a disastrous T20 World Cup run in 2021.

"I was quite surprised that you came here with just 4 fast bowlers. You needed that extra one. Someone like Mohammed Shami sitting at home baffles me. After the IPL for him not making the cut,"

Former Pakistan great Wasim Akram asked Shastri about coach's role in selection, to which Dravid's predecessor replied,

"He does. He is not part of the selection. He can contribute."

Shami has claimed 18 wickets in 17 T20Is, since making his debut in 2014.

The 32-year-old impressed all with his bowling for the champions Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, picking up 20 wickets in 16 matches.
