Legendary Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has thrown his weight of support behind India opener, KL Rahul as he believes that the stylish batter can prove to be the 'main man for the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20I World Cup.

But, for that to happen, Watson has urged the 30-year-old to break the shackles he has formed around him and be the best version of himself.

Watson further added that if Rahul manages to do that in the lead-up to the T20I World Cup, then it will relieve a lot of pressure from the shoulders of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Speaking on The ICC Review show, Watson said:

"I just want him to be the best version of him. He’s got an array of shots against the best bowlers in the world that no one can stop. When he becomes more of an accumulator, like he was at Punjab Kings and also for Lucknow Super Giants (in the IPL), he’s slightly lower risk but can still play the big shots. I believe he’s better than that,” as quoted by India Today.

"He can score at a 150-160 strike rate against the best bowlers in the world and that’d take a bit of pressure off Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well."

Can KL Rahul regain his form in the upcoming games of Asia Cup?

Rahul made a return to the T20I set-up following a prolonged hiatus in the ongoing Asia Cup.

While he struggled for rhythm in his first two outings- especially in the game against Hong Kong where he managed a painstaking 39-ball 36- he came out all guns blazing against Pakistan in the Super-4 encounter this past Sunday.

Rahul couldn't convert his start into a big score but it was heartening to see his carefree approach and Indian fans will hope that he continues with the same in the forthcoming games.
