Ryan Higgins to join Middlesex on loan for the remainder of the 2022 season

Middlesex County Cricket Club on Sunday announced the signing of Ryan Higgins on a short-term loan from Gloucestershire for the remainder of the 2022 summer.

Higgins, who played four First-Class matches for Middlesex early on in his career, moved to Gloucestershire at the end of the 2017 summer after being unable to make it to Middlesex's first team.

Over the next four years, he played 58 First-Class matches for the Bristol county and emerged as one of the best all-rounders in the County circuit. He has 2619 runs (First-Class) at an average of 32.33, including six centuries and 194 wickets during his stay at Nevil Road. 

However, both the clubs now have agreed to the 27-year-old joining Middlesex for the remainder of this season. As a result, Higgins will join the Middlesex squad and will begin his training this week ahead of their next Championship fixture against Glamorgan at Lord’s, starting on September 12th.

Speaking on Higgins joining Middlesex on loan ahead of the last three Championship matches of the summer, the Club’s Head of Men’s Performance Cricket, Alan Coleman, said

“We are thrilled to have reached an agreement for Higgo to join us immediately for the remainder of the season."

Coleman further offered his gratitude to the Bristol club for making this deal happen and allow the Harare born cricketer who made his Middlesex's limited-overs debut back in 2014 return to the club once again.

“Our thanks go to all at Gloucestershire for making this happen and we look forward to welcoming Ryan back into the group this week," Coleman added.

“Ryan brings quality, experience, and a game-winning mentality with him, and we are excited to have him around for this crucial part of the season."

Higgins signing a big boost to Middlesex's promotion hopes

Middlesex, who are eyeing promotion to the First Division of the County Championship have three games remaining the Division Two this season, one at home against Glamorgan and two trips away from home at Leicestershire and Worcestershire.

The arrival of Higgins will surely improve Middlesex’s chances of securing a spot in the First division. He has previously played four First-Class matches, 17 List-A games and 36 T20s for Middlesex.
