Andrew McDonald wants to Test out Australia's bench strength for next year's World Cup

Australia’s men’s team won their first ODI series for the year after they defeated Zimbabwe at home by 2-1. Even though Australia won the series against Zimbabwe, the notable point was their shocking loss in the third ODI, which intensifies questions about their team balance for next year’s World Cup in India.

The prospect of a series whitewash against Zimbabwe has turned into a reality check for Australia in the 50-over format. In recent times, the mighty Aussies have struggled to win games in the one-day format. Prior to the start of the home summer, they lost a series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the subcontinent. Australia's struggle in the ODIs reflects on their position in the ICC ODI Super League points table, where they are placed in the seventh position.

Next up the five-time World Cup winners will face the number one ranked ODI side in the world- New Zealand a three-match ODI series at home. Speaking to the media ahead of the series, Australian men's team head coach Andrew McDonald stated that the team will look to try out different combinations depending on match situations to build a strong group of players for the next year's mega event. 

"You'll see probably the balance of our team started to shift from game to game at times, just making sure that we're covering all the bases," Andrew McDonald told reporters.
