Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan opined that none of the Pakistan pacers can make up for the absence of the ace fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.

In Pakistan’s second game of the Asia Cup 2022, the wicket-keeper batter smashed a half-century against Hong Kong. He scored 78 runs off 57 balls with the help of six fours and one six to help his team qualify for the Super four stage.

After his unbeaten 78-run knock against Hong Kong in the first innings, Rizwan spoke with the broadcasters. He was asked for his comments on Shaheen’s absence from the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, he remarked that no bowler could replace the ace pacer.

Shaheen is irreplaceable, says Rizwan

Notably, Afridi sustained a knee injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in July 2022; since then, the star pacer has been out of action and isn’t also part of the Pakistan team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE.

“None of these bowlers can make up for Shaheen’s absence but anyone can become Shaheen on a given day,” Mohammad Rizwan was quoted as saying after the first innings against Hong Kong.

On a challenging Sharjah wicket, Rizwan showed his class and temperament by playing an anchor innings which eventually turned out to be a match-winning contribution.

Speaking on his innings, the Pakistan T20 opener said:

“It was difficult in the beginning, but after getting the hang of it, we did quite well,”

Pakistan awaits the Indian challenge

Pakistan advances to the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022. The Men in Green will take on arch-rivals India on September 4. Rizwan said that every game against India is a challenging one and the pressure mounts on both camps.

“Every match against India is very challenging like a final. It is a pressure game and it is on Indian players as well,” he concluded.
