Asia Cup 2022: Ravindra Jadeja becomes India’s most successful bowler in tournament's history

Ravindra Jadeja delivered the most economical spell of the high-scoring Asia Cup 2022 bout between India and Hong Kong. The dynamic all-rounder conceded just 15 runs of his four overs, and picked up the wicket of their settled batter Babar Hayat.

Jadeja also sent Hong Kong skipper Nizakat Khan back to the pavilion with a run-out in the run-chase. Team India eventually emerged victors by a 40-run margin, and punched their way into the next round in style.

The 33-year-old cricketer has now become India’s most successful bowler in Asia Cup history. His figures of 1-15 against Hong Kong extended his tournament tally to 23 wickets. Previously, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan had taken 22 Asia Cup wickets during his playing days.

Jadeja played his first-ever Asia Cup in 2010, and celebrated the occasion with four wickets. The left-arm spinner took an additional 18 wickets in his subsequent four Asia Cup appearances. Notably, his most profitable outing came during the 2018 event, where collected seven wickets at an economy rate of just 4.45.

Overall, the Asia Cup wickets tally is headed by Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralidaran with 30 wickets. Next on the elite list are Lasith Malinga (29 wickets), Ajantha Mendis (26 wickets) and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal (25 wickets).
