India opener KL Rahul, who was under fire after being dismissed for a golden duck against Pakistan, was once again at the receiving end of criticism regarding his playing approach as he couldn't do much in the Second Group A game against Hong Kong.

Asked to bat first by Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan, India never got off to a flying start courtesy of Rahul's slow batting approach. The right-handed batter was not taking enough risks and his foot movement wasn't giving any confidence either.

The 30-year-old did try to play some shots against the spinners but due to the lack of timing and proper execution, he didn't get success in the majority of them.

Rahul, struggling to find his feet in the middle eventually perished after scoring 36 runs from 39 balls, reflecting the fact that he still hasn’t gained his form back on the international stage after making a comeback from a two-month-long injury layoff.

Simply can't fathom this approach: Venkatesh Prasad

Rahul's T20 batting approach, especially at a time when team India are preparing their players to play aggressive cricket, has been at the centre of stern criticism in recent times.

The former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was one among many to question KL Rahul for his batting approach against Hong Kong on Wednesday. Taking to Twitter, Venkatesh Prasad wrote:

“Is there something in the pitch that is not visible? Simply can't fathom this approach, especially from KL Rahul.”

There is no doubt that KL Rahul has been one of India's best openers in the last few years but his strike rate in T20s has been a hot topic of discussion in recent times.

Given the T20I World Cup is now just less than two months away, Rahul needs to work on his temperament in this format and make a case for himself to get the nod to open the innings for India in the upcoming showpiece event, scheduled to be played in Australia.
