Today, exactly half a century ago Sir Garfield Sobers made history by hitting 6 sixes in an over. While creating the record, Sobers was representing Nottinghampshire against Glamorgan in the English County Championship in Swasnea.

Malcom Nash's unfortunate spell

He hit the sixes against Malcom Nash, a left-arm seamer. Nash was asked to bowl spin by his captain to put some pressure on the fine batter. But the plan ended in severe punishment at the hands Sobers. With almost no turn on the pitch, Nash's deliveries were a cherry on top for the West Indian.

Despite the unfortunate spell, Nash bowled phenomenally in the game, amassing a figure of 4/100.

History that almost didn't happen

The Nottinghampshire captain Sobers was on a hitting spree in the game. Coming in at the middle, the top-order batsmen had already laid a strong foundation.

The fateful over came to a dramatic end. After smashing five consecutive sixes, Sobers was caught at the boundary on the sixth delivery.

The fielder Roger Davis was observed carrying the ball over the boundary while attempting the catch after closer inspection.

Sobers blazing innings

The West-Indian captain went on to score a humungous 166, driving Nottinghampshire to victory against Glamorgan.

Indian legend Ravi Shastri is the only other batter to achieve the rare milestone in first-class cricket.
