Hobart Hurricanes looking to bring back Tim Paine for BBL 12

Hobart Hurricanes head coach Jeff Vaughan hinted at Tim Paine's possible comeback to the Big Bash League season 12 for a short stint.

It was earlier reported that Paine has resumed training with the Tasmanian Sheffield Shield squad ahead of the 2022-23 first-class season. After stepping down from the captaincy role of the Australian men's Test team, the wicketkeeper batter decided to take a break from the game stating, "indefinite mental health break" following a scandal which shook Cricket Australia ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Vaughan, who was recently appointed as the head coach by the recommendation of Hurricanes' head of strategy Ricky Ponting, said that Paine has been practicing well in the nets but he will be in consideration for selection in the squad for the 'last position'.

"He's two weeks back into his training schedule again [and has] been really good in the nets.[He's] good physically, good emotionally. Look, there's a chance, but he'll be one of a number of players we'll look at for that last position," Jeff Vaughan was quoted as saying on Tuesday (August 31).

Despite having Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott in their ranks, the Hurricanes management seems to be interested in bringing back Paine in the mix as another wicket-keeper batter option.

The 37-year-old has been training with Tasmania for several weeks now and might feature at the club level first in order to advance into the state's first team and maybe into the Hurricanes squad for BBL 12.
