India head coach Rahul Dravid has won the race against time as he reportedly tested negative for COVID-19 on August 27.

As reported by The Indian Express, Dravid returned a negative report for the novel virus in the last test that was conducted on Saturday. This comes as good news for the Indian team as their regular coach could be seen in the side's upcoming clash against Pakistan.

"Rahul test results has come negative and he is fit to fly," a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

For the unversed, Dravid had tested positive for COVID-19 few days earlier. As a result of which, he did not fly with the Indian contingent to UAE for the ongoing Asia Cup.

"Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in the UAE on 23rd August, 2022," BCCI secretary Jay Shah had informed.

VVS Laxman was appointed as India's interim coach for the tournament. However, with Dravid now expected to join the team soon, Laxman could assume his role back at National Cricket Academy, Bangalore.

The Dravid-Laxman combo

Dravid was given a break in India's series versus Ireland and Zimbabwe. Laxman was assigned the head coach's duties of the side in the respective tours.
