Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been horribly out of form this year. Though Kohli hasn’t scored a century in almost three years, he was making it up with the fifties. However, in 2022 he has scored only 476 runs across all formats in 16 games at an average of 25.05.

The 33-year-old’s elaborated lean patch can put him in trouble. A lot of former cricketers and analysts are already questioning the long rope being given to the batting maestro. Veterans like Dinesh Kaneria have even labeled Kohli as a liability for the Indian team.

Despite the criticism, the Indian management continues to back their star player. Kohli forms a part of India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup, scheduled in the United Arab Emirates. However, it is believed that the T20 event will be the last chance for Kohli to prove himself in the purest format of the game.

Indian team not bothered about the outside noise

The Delhi-born can be axed from India’s T20 World Cup squad later this year if he fails to show rhythm in the Asia Cup. Amidst all the speculations, India’s vice-captain KL Rahul has supported his former skipper. Rahul took a jibe at the unnecessary opinions saying that the team isn’t bothered about the outside noise.

Appearing in the press conference, Rahul said,

“We don't really give much importance to comments. Everyone has their own opinion but it doesn't really affect a player, especially a world-class player like Virat will not be affected by what people are saying on the outside.”

Meanwhile, the opening batter also gave his personal opinion on Kohli’s form saying that everything is absolutely okay with the Delhi-born. The LSG skipper revealed that he watched Kohli play and didn’t find it out of the form. Kohli is just struggling to match the standards he has himself set over the years.

Rahul not worried about Kohli’s form

Rahul has full faith that the right-hander will be able to play good knocks and again win matches for India. The vice-captain believes that all the Indian players just need some game time to get back in the groove ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled in Australia.

“We all eagerly want Virat to get back to the Virat Kohli form that everybody is talking about (but) we are not worried as the Indian team and I am sure he is not worried”

Kohli last played for India during the England tour. The batter has been on a break for over a month as he gave the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour a miss. The break must have rejuvenated Kohli and the fans are expecting to see him fire again.
