New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult asserted that he wants to be a part of the squad which will participate in the next year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The number one ranked ODI bowler in the world dropped a bombshell before the start of the West Indies tour when it was announced that he and New Zealand Cricket had agreed to tear up his central contract, freeing him from Black Caps tours and allowing him to take his talents to as many T20 franchise leagues as he wants.

Moving ahead in time, there will be an element of suspense around Boult's availability for future tours of New Zealand across formats, having recently cited a desire to tour less and spend more time with his family.

Boult, who was a member of the New Zealand side which finished as runners-up back-to-back in ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2019 is keen to play the next year's 50-over World Cup in India as he wishes to win the major world title in the one-day format.

"I remember talking to Kane (Williamson) after (the) 2019 at Lord’s and saying we want to be there in four years time. It's only a few months around the corner and there's a lot of hunger to try to have another crack at that trophy,"  Trent Boult was quoted as saying.

To New Zealand's misfortune, they lost the last three white-ball finals and two of them came in the 50-over format in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

The left-arm pacer also remains hopeful that the decision to give up his central contract will not have an impact on his future with the Test team.

“I hope not. I’m fully aware that with the decision I made to give that contract back, it’s going to affect that selection. I’m taking it almost week by week really. There’s a lot of cricket to be played before then."
