ENG vs SA 2022: James Anderson set to scale new Test height

On Thursday, August 25, Anderson will step inside Manchester’s Old Trafford to mark his career’s 100th Test at home. In doing so, he will become the first cricketer in the world to feature in 100 home Tests for his country.

Previously, former Indian batsman and all-time great Sachin Tendulkar made 94 appearances at home, out of his career’s 200 Tests. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting features next on the list of most home Tests with 92 of such matches.

Anderson’s long-time new-ball partner Stuart Broad has played 90 Tests in England and will move a step closer to Ponting’s tally as he takes field against South Africa on the same day.

Former English and Australian captains Alastair Cook and Steve Waugh are jointly placed at number five on the list with 89 Tests each to their credit.

Notably, the Old Trafford Test also provides Stuart Broad an opportunity to complete 800 wickets in international cricket. Following his side’s innings defeat to the Proteas at Lord’s last week, the speedster remained stranded at 798 wickets.

Both Anderson and Broad are also Test cricket’s most proficient bowling pair, having taken 1,213 wickets between them in 330 combined matches.
