Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes left-arm orthodox Jack Leach should be 'licking his lips' at the prospect of bowling on the 'best cricket wicket in the country' in the forthcoming Test against South Africa.

The Ben Stokes-led hosts will take on the Proteas at the iconic Old Trafford in Manchester from Thursday, August 25th in a bid to square the three-match rubber.

Leach was one of the few shining lights for England in what was a forgettable Test for them at Lord's.

The SLA orthodox not only bowled with a lot of control during his 14-over spell but also looked extremely threatening, especially against Aiden Markram, who he eventually dismissed.

In his column for the Telegraph UK, Panesar wrote that Leach's slower delivery to dismiss Markram showcased the amount of confidence that the latter has in his craft.

With the Old Trafford pitch famous for its bounce, Monty believes that Leach will relish bowling on it.

Here's what Monty Panesar wrote:

''I believe Old Trafford is the best cricket wicket in the country, for both seamers and spinners, so Jack Leach should be licking his lips ahead of the second Test there this week. Leach bowled well at Lord's and the slower delivery to get the wicket of Aiden Markram showed how much confidence he has in his ability and the support Ben Stokes gives him."

England include Ollie Robinson for the Old Trafford Test

Meanwhile, England announced their playing XI on the eve of the Manchester Test.

The hosts have made one change to the starting XI that lost heavily at Lord's, with Matty Potts making way for Ollie Robinson.

As far as the performances of spinners at Old Trafford is concerned, the tweakers have taken 59 wickets in the last 8 Tests that have taken place here since 2011. It will be interesting to see how Leech goes about his business this week.
