The Adelaide Strikers have expressed their desire to retain Rashid Khan for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. Notably, the Afghanistan veteran will only be available for the first half of the tournament this year.

Khan will only be available for selection for the first 6-7 matches in the BBL 2022-23 season. The enigmatic spinner is slated to join the Mumbai Indians-owned Cape Town franchise for the inaugural edition of South Africa-based T20 league next year.

Adelaide Strikers performance analyst Jarrod Harkness recently stated that even though the cricketer will be available for only half-a-season, they are keen to retain him.

Harkness even claimed that Rashid has been “one of the best players” for the past several years in BBL.

Apparently, the master craftsman also wants to return to the Adelaide Strikers’ camp. In an interview posted by Cricket Australia on Tuesday, August 23, Khan said that he has loved his time with the Strikers and the support he has received from the fans.

Moreover, he also admitted to having discussions with his friends about Adelaide being a city he would love to live in the future.

Rashid Khan’s BBL track record

The all-rounder made his BBL debut in the 2017-18 edition of the tournament. So far, he has played 61 BBL matches, all for the Strikers, and has collected 92 wickets while maintaining an efficient economy rate.

His magnum opus performance came against the Brisbane Heat earlier this year, where he picked six Heat batters for just 19 off his four-over spell.
