Test stalwart Broad likely to miss Pakistan flight to be with fiancée

Senior English pacer Stuart Broad might miss the Test segment of his side’s trip to Pakistan this December. As reported by the Evening Standard, his fiancée Mollie King is due to give birth before the end of the year.

England’s Test series in Pakistan will commence from December 1 onwards at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Meanwhile, the tour will conclude with a decider in Karachi between December 17 and December 21.

One-half of Test cricket’s most proficient wicket-taking portmanteau (alongside James Anderson), Broad never played a single match in Pakistan throughout his illustrious career. He made his international debut in 2006, roughly a year after an English side made its previous visit to Pakistan.

The road ahead for Broad

The Nottinghamshire-based cricketer will now face the visiting South Africans in the second Test of their three-match series. The match will be played between August 25 and August 29 at Old Trafford.

England lost the opening Test by an innings and 12 runs to concede the opening lead to the visitors.

Notably, if Broad misses the Pakistan tour, the ongoing series against South Africa will mark the final set of matches for the pacer for nearly a year. England’s three Tests in Pakistan will bring an end to their 2021-23 WTC campaign and their subsequent assignment will only commence in the 2023-25 cycle.
