Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube on Monday said that playing under MS Dhoni in the IPL 2022 was a great learning experience and it helped him improve as a cricketer.

IPL 2022 saw the resurgence of Shivam Dube, who was bought by the Super Kings for Rs 4 crore. Even after having a mixed outing in the tournament, he finished as the second highest run scorer for CSK with 289 runs under his belt in 11 outings at a blistering strike rate of 156.22, which includes a few match-winning knocks. However, the right-arm medium pacer came under serious criticism for poor returns with the ball.

Dhoni is a role model: Dube

Sharing his experience of playing under the exemplary leadership of the ex-Indian skipper MS Dhoni for the first time in his career, Dube labelled Dhoni as a role model within the CSK setup. He further said that playing alongside the legendary figure helped him improve his performance.

“Playing under MS Dhoni was a great learning experience. He is a role model and mentor to the entire team. Playing with him helped me a lot and I could see my performance get better,” Shivam Dube told IANS.

Dube aiming for a national recall

With competition for places, Dube lost his place in the national team. Having played his last game for India in 2020 against New Zealand, Dube stated his ultimate goal is to be part of the national side again and win matches for the country.

“My ultimate goal is to be part of the Indian cricket team again and win matches for my country. I am training every single day, following a strict nutrition programme and making improvements.”
