Asia Cup 2022: Five players to watch out for

To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited Asia Cup is going to commence after just a few days. Six Asian powerhouses are set to battle it out in the marquee event for the crown, which will decide the best team of the continent.

As we gear up for the tournament, let's see which players could emerge as game changers in this exciting multinational affair.

Suryakumar Yadav

Hailed as India's Mr 360, the rise of Suryakumar Yadav as a prolific T20 batter has been inspirational, to say the least.

After smashing a scintillating hundred against England in their backyard, Suryakumar topped the chart in the West Indies T20Is, slamming 135 runs at a tremendous strike rate of 168.75. He scores comfortably against spin and pace, and more importantly, he is incredibly strong through the square. The way he uses his wrist to manufacture shots against any kind of bowling makes him a severe threat to any bowling attack.

Shadab Khan

Shadab had a dream run in the T20 World Cup last year, scalping nine wickets at a fabulous economy of six. More importantly, he has picked sixteen wickets in nine outings in Dubai and Sharjah combined, where Pakistan will play their two group stage fixtures.

He has also slammed 49 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 222.72 without being dismissed in his last two T20I series. Considering his finishing prowess and the RHB-heavy lineups of the teams he will play against, we expect Shadab to put up some impactful performances in the showpiece event.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Regarded as a phenomenal T20 spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga had a prolific World Cup campaign last year, picking 16 wickets at a surreal economy of 5.20

The way he troubled the power-packed batting units of Australia, South Africa and England in the tournament was exemplary. Additionally, Hasaranga is pretty much capable of scoring handy runs at a brisk pace down the order. Considering his all-round abilities, we choose the Sri Lankan tweaker as a must-one to watch out for in the Asia Cup.

Arshdeep Singh

A bowler who can swing as well as nail yorkers, Arshdeep Singh rose to prominence, performing admirably in the IPL 2022.

After debuting for the national side, the Punjab-born seamer has picked nine wickets in six outings at a phenomenal economy of 6.58. He can operate in the powerplay as well as the death overs. Also, being a left-armer, he can cause trouble for the bests in business with his angle. As he is effective in every phase of the game, we expect him to star with the ball for India in the multinational event.

Rashid Khan

A magician with the ball, the spin maestro Rashid Khan will be Afghanistan's most lethal weapon in the Asia Cup 2022.

Well, this man doesn't even need a formal introduction. He has kept the legendary batters quiet and possesses a plethora of experience in the shortest format. Additionally, he grabbed eight wickets at an impressive economy of 6.11 in the World Cup in UAE last year. Although Rashid is slightly struggling with his bowling form, the opposition should underestimate him at their peril, considering his incredible ability and sheer class.
