Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup 2022 due to a groin injury.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club on Monday (August 22) confirmed that the 31-year-old Ahmedabad-born cricketer will be returning back to India after sustaining a groin injury during their match against Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the Royal London Cup. Pandya sustained the injury last week while batting against the Outlaws and did not play against Durham on Sunday.

Krunal sidelined for three weeks

According to the details shared by the club, the spinning all-rounder is likely to be sidelined for the next three weeks and would not be available for selection should the Warwickshire Bears reach the knockout stages.

In five appearances for Warwickshire in the One-Day Cup, Pandya scored 124 runs, including a solitary half-century against Surrey, and also picked up nine wickets with his left-arm spin at a staggering economy rate of 5.62 which is second best to Craig Miles (5.14).

Warwickshire director of cricket Paul Farbrace expressed his disappointment at losing a player of Krunal's quality ahead of the business end of the 50-over tournament.

"It's frustrating to lose Krunal for the remainder of the tournament, but he leaves the club with our very best wishes," said Paul Farbrace.

No replacement for Krunal

"Due to the short turnaround, we won't be signing a replacement, however, I'm incredibly excited to see our squad build on Sunday's excellent win over Durham," added Farbace.

The injury news comes as a major blow to Warwickshire's chances of qualification for the knockout stages of this year's Royal London One-Day Cup.
