It was a moment of heartbreak for Yuzvendra Chahal last year as he failed to make it to the T20 World Cup 2021. India unleashed a bag full of surprises while announcing the squad for the T20 event. The management shockingly decided to drop Chahal to make way for Rahul Chahar.

Further, Kuldeep Yadav was also sidelined as the Men in Blue preferred Varun Chakravarthy. In another shocking decision, Ravi Ashwin was handed a comeback in white-ball cricket after a long wait of seven years.

However, what amazed the fans most was Chahal immediately making a comeback to the Indian side post the T20 World Cup 2021. Virat Kohli & Men had a horrendous ride in the ICC event as they failed to qualify for the playoffs after massive defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand.

The spinner reflects on his emotions after getting dropped

Following the humiliation, the team decided to make amends. While Chahal was called back, Chahar and Chakravarthy were dropped from the team. A year after the snub, the leg-spinner reflected on his emotions.

In an interview with the Youtube channel, Sports Yaari, Chahal reckoned,

“I never asked anyone why (about the 2021 World Cup snub) because that’s not in my control. Obviously, you feel bad that you aren’t a part of the World Cup, but they might have thought that someone else was better and fair enough.”

Chahal’s sensational comeback in 2022

It won’t be wrong to say that the 32-year-old took the last year’s rejection to his heart. Chahal unleashed a beast in 2022 as he dished out some heart-melting performances. The Haryana-born ended up as the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League 2022 while plying his trade for Rajasthan Royals.

He played a vital role in steering the Royals to the final against Gujarat Titans. The spinner scalped a total of 27 wickets in 17 wickets at an economy rate of 7.75 and an average of 19.51. Chahal has been rewarded well for his performance with inclusion in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022.
