Pakistan batsman Shan Masood is set to leave Derbyshire at the end of the ongoing English season. Quite recently, the cricketer opted to move to a new county despite being offered a contract extension by the club.

Masood leaves the county after rich season with the bat

The 32-year-old has been the leading run-scorer for Derbyshire this County season. The left-hander piled up 1,074 runs at an average of 82.61 with three tons and four half-centuries. He also charted his career-best first-class score of 239 against Essex this year.

Masood has also topped the T20 chart for the club this year by scoring 555 runs across 15 innings.

Upon the cricketer’s refusal to continue next season, Derbyshire’s Head of Cricket, Mickey Arthur said:

“The contract renewal reflected his performances and value to the Club, but ultimately, we couldn’t match the offer. The other county set their stall out to bring in Shan and while it is of course disappointing to lose a player of his calibre, I and everyone at the Club wish him the very best for the future.”

Meanwhile, the Pakistani batter has himself stated that he is leaving the side because he wanted to move to the “next phase” of his life and career.

He heaped praise on the club and also thanked the coaching staff for maintaining a healthy dressing room environment.
