Broad insists England are still in the game

England fast bowler Stuart Broad opines that his team is confident of overhauling a tricky position again in the ongoing first Test against South Africa at Lord's Cricket Ground.

On day two of the first Test, South Africa clipped the English tail to turn an overnight score of 116-6 into 165 all out, before going on to reach 289-7 themselves by stumps.

South Africa's lead of 124 runs came about largely thanks to openers Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee and a sparkling seventh-wicket partnership between Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen that came with a hint of 'Bazball' about it. The pair rescued the visitors from a somewhat precarious position of 210/6 with a 72-run stand in just 12 overs.

Proteas have a crucial 124-run lead with three wickets still in hand going into the third day, but Broad believes that 'positive' England can still fight back in the game.

Broad, who completed his Lord's wickets century when Ben Foakes held on to remove Kyle Verreynne, said that game has been set up nicely leading up to the all-important Day 3.

"The game is set up really nicely. We feel really positive in the changing room that we have got ourselves back in the game. We feel like tomorrow is a must-win day.

We needed a couple of breakthroughs. He (Ben Stokes) gave us a bit of energy and got the crowd going. Stokesy brought great theatre. Players like him put bums on seats. When you get bowled out relatively cheaply in the first innings, you have to make it a first versus fourth innings game, so we have to try to get enough ahead that we can try to defend it," Stuart Broad.
