We have what it takes to make a comeback: Jack Leach

England left-arm orthodox Jack Leach believes that the home side has 'what it takes to engineer a turnaround in the ongoing Lord's Test even though he admitted that the Ben Stokes-led side has fallen behind in the game.

The Proteas applied stranglehold on their hosts on the 2nd day as brilliant partnerships between openers Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee and then a counterattacking 72-run-stand between Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen helped them eke out a 124-run lead at Stumps' on day 02.

Leach, who looked in great rhythm throughout his 14 overs on the 2nd day, sounded confident that England will wrap up South Africa's innings cheaply on the third morning before taking the game head-on with the bat.

Here's what Jack Leach told Sky Sports:

"I know that we are behind in the game but I know that we have what it takes to make a comeback in this game. Our bowling has been good, we will try to get those early wickets in the first session tomorrow. He (Stokes) wants up to keep the attacking approach and we will keep at it,"

Stokes and Leach led the attack for England

Having been bowled out for a mere 165 on the second morning, England looked well and truly on the brink when the South African opening duo of Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee were milking their bowling with ease during the course of their 85-run stand.

However, Leech (1-42 in 14 overs) and then Stokes (3-53 in 12 overs) brought the 'Three Lions' back in the game as the Proteas slipped from 160-2 to 210-6.

While Leach nicked off Aiden Markram, Stokes produced a marathon spell where he attacked the Proteas, especially Erwee with unrelenting short-pitch stuff.

He eventually reaped the reward as Erwee, who played beautifully for his 146-ball 73, couldn't sway out a head-hunting bumper.

Stokes followed it up by trapping RVD plumb in front with a nip-backer and while he also dismissed Maharaj at the fag end of the day, by then, the former and Jansen had already helped South Africa take a match-defining 124-run lead.
