Mohammed Siraj on Thursday (18 August) became the sixth Indian player to be signed by a County team in the ongoing domestic season. He has been snapped by the Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the County Championship matches.

Before Siraj,  the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini have already featured in the 2022 season.

Currently, the 28-year-old is featuring for the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. However, he is not selected for the Asia Cup and is not expected to be in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, which will keep him available for the Birmingham Bears in September.

Siraj excited to join Warwickshire

“I can’t wait to join up with the Bears squad. I have always enjoyed playing in England with India and I’m excited to experience County Cricket," said Siraj.

“Edgbaston is world class stadium and the atmosphere it created this year for the Test was special. I’m really looking forward to making it my home in September and hopefully helping the Bears end the season well."

Warwickshire's performance in County Championship 2022

Currently, Bears are at the eighth spot in the 2022 Championship season with only a solitary victory in 11 appearances. As a result, they do not stand a chance to have a shot at the silverware.

They have three matches left in the ongoing season, and would look to finish on a high. In their 12th league match, Warwickshire will face Somerset on September 12 at Birmingham.
