Ellyse Perry to remain in Sixers camp following contract extension

Veteran Australian allrounder Ellyse Perry is set to captain Sydney Sixers in the eighth season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) after re-signing with the club.

In her reaction, Perry said,

"The club has been such a significant part of my career, and I am especially proud of what the team has been able to achieve both on and off the field over the last seven years, especially in terms of engaging and inspiring lots of young girls and boys to be involved in cricket."

The Sixers' head coach Charlotte Edwards welcomed Perry gleefully and expected her to take the franchise to new heights under her able leadership.

The former England captain heaped praise on the 31-year-old by saying,

"Ellyse has been one of the world's best players for a long, long time, and is part of the fabric of the Sydney Sixers. I have no doubt she will continue to lead the team by example as we look to play an attacking, exciting brand of cricket that our fans can be proud of."

Despite being a fabulous allrounder across formats, Perry has recently lost her place in Australia's T20 setup, struggling with form and injury.

However, the stylish right-handed batter has had two consecutive impressive outings in the ongoing Hundred competition, registering scores of 58 and 39* for the Birmingham Phoenix. If she continues her exquisite touch with the willow, it will be a matter of time before she regains her spot.
