In an unfortunate turn of events, experienced New Zealand seamer Matt Henry has been sidelined from the upcoming ODI series against West Indies after sustaining a rib injury. Young Wellington seamer Ben Sears has been named as his replacement.

In his reaction, the Blackcaps head coach Gary Stead expressed his disappointment at losing Henry prior to the important series.

"It’s a shame for Matt to have to return home at this point of the tour. Although the injury is not overly serious - we felt there was a significant risk it would become worse through playing."

However, he also heaped praise on Ben Sears for his pace and expected him to grab many eyeballs by performing admirably in his debut ODI series.

"Ben comes fresh from a successful tour with the Black Caps in Europe and while he is yet to play ODI cricket - we believe he’s ready if called upon. At 24-years-old he’s an exciting young prospect and we like the pace and skills he possesses."
