The swashbuckling batter Ishan Kishan believes the exclusion from the Asia Cup squad can propel him to get more runs under his belt and stake a strong claim for selections.

On Monday (August 8), the selectors announced the 15-member Indian contingent for the Asia Cup slated to be played from 27 August to 11 September.

The non-selection of Kishan came as a surprise for the fans, resulting in them thronging social media platforms.

However, the 24-year-old will be featuring in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe beginning on 18 August. Ahead of the Tour, the opening batter broke his silence on his Asia Cup snub.

Kishan strives to work harder

"I feel that what selectors do is fair. They put a lot of thought while selecting players as to who should be given the opportunity and where. It is a positive for me because if I am not selected, I will work harder and score more runs. When selectors will have confidence in me, they will obviously keep me in the team,"

Recent performances of Kishan in international circuit

After doing well in the second half of Indian Premier League 2022, Kishan was named in the home T20I series against South Africa. The southpaw returned as the top-scorer in the series with 206 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 150.36.

However, the youngster could garner only 29 runs in two innings of the Ireland T20I series. Afterwards, he could appear in only two matches on the England and West Indies tour, and scored 19 runs in two games.

It will be interesting to see if Kishan can contribute to the team's success in the Zimbabwe series and make a comeback for the T20 World Cup.
