On this day, 31 years ago, Viv Richards, Jeff Dujon, and Malcolm Marshall featured in their last Test fixture for West Indies. The occasion was the final red-ball game of the West Indies Tour to England at The Oval.

Richards is the third highest run-scorer for the Caribbean team with 8540 runs in 182 Test innings. Dujon is at the top with the most (270) dismissals by a West Indies keeper in the purest format. Marshall scalped 376 Test wickets and sits at third position in the nation's wicket tally.

England dominate proceedings in first innings

Opting to bat first, England got off to a great start courtesy of skipper Graham Gooch (60) and Hugh Morris (44). In the middle-order, Robin Smith hit 109 and he was supported by Chris Lewis (47*) to further propel the hosts to a total of 419. Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh picked three wickets apiece for the visitors.

Then, Phil Tufnell demolished the Caribbean batting order by taking 6/25, which ended their innings for a total of 176. Desmond Haynes was the top-scorer for West Indies with 75 runs.

England took a lead of 243 runs in the first innings and enforced a follow-on.

Richie Richardson and Viv Richards impress, but England level the series

Following on, most of the Caribbean batters were clinical to provide substantial contributions. The top run-scorer was Richie Richardson with 121 off 312 balls, and Richards ended his Test career on a high with 60 off 105 deliveries.

However, David Lawrence took a five-for and helped England to dismiss West Indies for 385.

Although the Three Lions faced resistance, Alec Stewart (38*) and Smith (26) helped them to chase the score of 143 and level the series 2-2.
