The Hundred 2022: Bravo becomes first cricketer to pick 600 T20 wickets
Bravo has been outstanding in the T20 format
Dwayne Bravo, a former West Indies international all-rounder and a T20 legend, created history on Thursday (August 11) by becoming the first bowler in the history of T20 cricket to claim 600 wickets. The 38-year-old Chennai Super Kings maestro achieved the milestone during his 545th match in the shortest format of the game.
Bravo, who is representing Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, was playing against Oval Invincibles on Thursday when he dismissed batsman Rilee Rossouw to get his 600th wicket. In the T20 format, Bravo has dismissed the highest number of batters, followed by Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who has 466 wickets to his name from 339 matches.
Bravo, who has been part of the World Cup winning West Indies team in 2012 and 2016, retired from international cricket last year. Bravo, who has numerous fans in India, has played a significant part in the IPL as well. He has taken the highest number of wickets in the tournament’s history - 183 wickets in 161 matches.
In IPL 2022, which was held across four venues in Maharashtra, Bravo surpassed Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga’s record to clinch the first position in the highest wicket-takers list. He has also been the recipient of the Purple Cap, which is awarded to the highest wicket-taker of the season.
Although the all-rounder no longer plays international cricket, he remains one of the most sought-after players across franchise tournaments across the world.
"I think the time has come. I've had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I'm very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long," Bravo had said in his retirement announcement, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
