LLC 2022: Sourav Ganguly to lead India in one-off match against World XI

The upcoming season of the Legends League Cricket 2022 (LLC) will be dedicated to India's 75th Independence. 

To make this event even more memorable, the opening match on September 16 at Eden Gardens will be between India and the Rest of the World — India Maharajas vs World Giants.

Current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly will lead the side in this match. 

The World Giants will be captained by England's World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan.

"This is a proud moment for us that we are celebrating 75th year of our independence. As a proud Indian, it gives me immense satisfaction to share that we have decided to dedicate this year's league to the 75th year of Independence celebration,"- LLC Commissioner Ravi Shastri.


Other Participants 

The Indian squad will be filled with former India greats like Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif, Harbhajan Singh, Ajay Jadeja, Sreesanth, Yusuf Pathan, and Irfan Pathan amongst others.

Rest of World will see a mixture of global stars from the cricketing world contributing to the marquee event. 

South Africa's Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn, Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan, Australia's pace duo of Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee have been added to the already star-studded line-up.

The LLC commences from 17th September, and will witness four nations compete against each other over the course of 15 games.
