In a resounding four-wicket win for SLC Bules, Praveen Jayawickrama emerged as a knight in shining armour as his three-for helped the side continue the winning run in SLC Invitational T20 League 2022.

Set on the run-chase of mere 116 runs, the Blues suffered from regular jitters, albeit, scoring at an above-par pace till the halfway mark. With the 10th over coming to an end, the score read 72/3.

Notwithstanding Milan Rathnayake's three-wicket haul, Ashen Bandara weathered the storm after skipper Kariyawasa Asalanka's dismissal, ensuring the team did not press the panic button.

While Asalanka with his 29-run knock came handy at the top in chasing the modest target, Bandara's unbeaten 23-ball 27 helped the side sit pretty throughout in their pursuit of 116 runs.

As many as nine balls and four wickets remained after Kasun Rajitha's boundary sealed the match for Asalanka and Co.

Jayawickrama leads a collapse

After opting to bat first, SLC Greys were made to eat the humble pie after their decision massively backfired.

From 60/1, the Ashan Priyanjan-led outfit stumbled to 115/9, finishing their innings at the same score . Chamika Karunaratne and Jayawickrama joined hands as they shredded the Greys batting line-up to pieces in their combined seven-over spell.

The road ahead

While SLC Greys will lock horns with SLC Greens on August 13, SLC Blues will battle it out against SLC Reds in the evening match on the same date.
