The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took the cricket fraternity by storm on Monday. The Indian board opened the doors of discussions and criticism as they named a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2022, scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates later this month.

A lot of star Indian players have made a comeback to the team after a break from the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are two major highlights of the team.

While the fans appreciate the strong squad selected for the Asia Cup under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, there has been criticism as well for the Indian selectors. A particular section of fans are not happy with the exclusion of Sanju Samson from the team.

India decided to go for Rishabh Pant as their main wicketkeeper-batter while Dinesh Karthik is the other keeper in the team.

Samson trends on Twitter

Samson’s omission caused havoc on social media. The 27-year-old failed to find a place among the standby players as well including Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar.

The angry fans took to their social media to express their disappointment. Notably, Samson’s journey in the international circuit has not been easy as the batter has struggled to find a permanent place in the team.

A glance at Samson’s career

Fans were hoping for a stable position for the Kerala-born after his decent performance during the West Indies tour. The three-match ODI series last month marked the first time Samson featured in three consecutive games for the Men in Blue since his debut in 2015.

Playing all the three ODIs, the 27-year-old scored runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 94.74. However, Samson failed to capitalize on the opportunity in the shortest format of the game.

He was a part of the playing XI in the last two T20 Internationals against West Indies. The batter registered scores of 30* and 15. Speaking of his overall international performance, the Rajasthan Royals skipper has played 16 T20Is and four ODIs scoring 296 and 118 runs.
