Kevin Pietersen endorses Roy as England's best player

England opener Jason Roy has earned vociferous backing from the former batter Kevin Pietersen.

Recently, Roy is undergoing a lean patch and he has struggled to get quick starts, and failing to convert his starts into big innings. He has amassed only 76 runs off 98 balls in six T20I appearances this summer.

Furthermore, the 32-year-old has begun his The Hundred campaign on a dismal note for Oval Invincibles. He was dismissed for a golden duck in the first fixture and run-a-ball ten in his latest outing.

However, Pietersen thinks the Surrey batter deserves a spot in the squad heading to the T20 World Cup 2022.

Roy has done an unbelievable job for Eoin Morgan: Pietersen

The 42-year-old reiterated the fact that Roy slammed 443 runs in the 2019 World Cup and helped England lift their maiden 50-overs title. Pietersen further hailed the opening batter's risk-taking appetite, which has helped the Three Lions to progress in white-ball cricket.

"Jason is a World Cup winner, he's done an unbelievable job for Eoin Morgan. He was told by Eoin, like the whole team, to go and smack the ball.

"With smacking the ball and being a risk-taker, you are going to fail and when you start failing, failing can happen for a long time. If Rob Key is listening, he is England's best player and he has been England's best player for a number of years."

England white-ball coach looking to replace Roy with youngsters?

The newly appointed England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has hinted that he could drop Roy due to his abysmal form. He thinks some hard decisions need to be made, to ensure team succeeds on most occasions.

Mott added that the young players like Harry Brook and Phil Salt are sitting on the sidelines, who can add fresh energy to the squad.
