England women's team pacer Katherine Brunt has expressed her disappointment in losing the Bronze medal game against New Zealand women's team in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

The hosts were thrashed by eight wickets in the bronze medal match at Edgbaston as New Zealand earned the first women's Commonwealth cricket medal.

Brunt contributed with only four runs with the bat and went wicketless against New Zealand, having taken two wickets for four runs from three overs against them in the group stage fixture.

Gutted about missing out on winning a medal in the multi-sport event, Brunt said her team has let the whole country down as the expectations were high from the 2017 World Cup winners.

"It felt like the actual whole country was behind us. We're just sad we let them down. We couldn't quite do it," said Katherine Brunt.

Brunt dropped a hint on her retirement

Asked whether the bronze medal match against New Zealand, was her last game for England, the 37-year-old veteran said that she needs to reflect on her future. Brunt added that she is now focused on the Hundred.

Brunt also highlighted the absence of their World Cup-winning skipper Heather Knight, who was ruled out of the entire tournament owing to an injury.

"We're all gutted. We're a lot better than that. Obviously we had a big knock with Heather (Knight)- a huge head on her shoulders, loads of experience and plenty of runs in the bank. We took a big hit, but we tried our best for her and thought we'd done enough but that game against India was brutal, and in the end, they deserved it.
