ENG-W vs NZ-W Review: New Zealand claim Bronze to settle the score against England

The White Ferns were up against the hosts England in the Bronze Medal match of the Commonwealth Games 2022. After losing their respective semi-finals this was the chance of redemption for both sides.

England won the toss and opted to have a go with the bat first. The decision turned out to be a nightmare for the hosts as they never found momentum in the contest and were limited to just 110 runs at the loss of nine wickets in the designated twenty overs.

Sciver got off to a solid start as she scored 27 in just 19 deliveries taking the attack to the Kiwi side. Wyatt and Capsey couldn’t get much out of the game as they both departed on scores of 4 and 5 individually.

Dunkley played a struggling inning of 8 runs as she was taken down by Kerr. Brunt and Bouchier failed to contribute significantly as well. Jones and Ecclestone played a good hand together as they ended up scoring 37 runs.

For New Zealand, Hayley Jensen emerged as the top wicket taker with three scalps to her name.

Kiwis ace the chase

Chasing a small total on the board, New Zealand never looked in discomfort. While Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer lost their wickets within the power play, the Kiwis had already positioned themselves in complete control over the opposition.

Sophie Devine scored an unbeaten knock of 51 runs guiding her team past the finish line to clinch the Bronze medal at CWG 2022.
