Our dressing room is in very good mental space: Raza

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza continued his purple patch as his unbeaten century helped Zimbabwe to register a historic win over Bangladesh in the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday (August 5).

Chasing a mammoth total, the hosts were in early trouble in pursuit of the competitive target, losing their openers including their stand-in captain Regis Chakabva.

Innocent Kaia and Raza then forged their match-winning partnership as the former grabbed his maiden ODI hundred and the latter his fourth to stun Bangladesh with a five-wicket win in the first match series in Harare.

Raza was unbeaten on 135, including six sixes and eight fours.

Bangladesh, who have been victorious in seven out of nine bilateral ODI series against all the opponents since 2019, won 19 consecutive ODI games against Zimbabwe prior to yesterday but the African side finally brought an end to that long winning run.

Raza was confident of a win

After the win, the man of the moment Sikandar spoke about the message to his teammates at the halfway stage which boosted team's morale to push for a historic win.

"We got together at the changing room and I actually initiated that we got our batters together and I said guys Inshallah we will win this game three overs to spare," said Sikandar Raza.

Raza highlights the positive state of the dressing room

Raza underlined the importance of the presence of towering figures like Dave Houghton and Lance Klusener in keeping a healthy atmosphere in the change room.

“When he speaks, it is very substantial, it’s very heavy and it’s to the point. I think when he speaks he only speaks for a little while but it holds a lot of meaning and the team buys into what he is saying and there is lot of respect towards our coach and there is lot of love going back to the team.

"The dressing room is in very good mental space and that’s why these things happen,” Raza concluded.
