Hendricks, middle-order propel South Africa to a strong score

Invited to bat first, South Africa had a stable start with Reeza Hendricks timing the ball sweetly. However, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen fell early, which gave an opportunity for the middle-order to shine for the team.

Hendricks and Aiden Markram added 32 runs for the third wicket, before both of them were sent to the hut by Gareth Delany in the 13th over.

Afterwards, the quickfire partnership of 71 off 28 balls between David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen sailed Proteas past 150. The all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius too provided a terrific finish for the team to finish on 182.

Irish batters tumble under pressure

Chasing a tough total,  the Irish team had a bad start with the back-to-back dismissals of Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker in the second-over bowled by Parnell.

Although Paul Stirling threatened the opposition with his wide range of shots, but in-form Lungi Ngidi made him miscue a slower ball in the sixth over. Barring Harry Tector and Barry McCarthy, the rest of the batting line-up fell like a pack of cards and Ireland lost by 44 runs.

The veteran seamer Parnell finished with the figures of 5/30 off four overs, and was rightly adjudged as Player of the Match.

Brief Scores:

South Africa: 182/6 (20)
Reeza Hendricks 42 (40), Heinrich Klaasen 39 (16);
Gareth Delany 2/24

Ireland: 138/10 (18.5)
Harry Tector 34 (31), Barry McCarthy 32 (19);
Wayne Parnell 5/30

South Africa won by 44 runs.
