Jos Buttler's half-century goes in vain as Superchargers whack Originals by six wickets

Northern Superchargers, on Friday, swatted aside Manchester Originals by six wickets at Old Trafford to kickstart their Hundred 2022 campaign in style.

Adam Lyth and Harry Brook guide Superchargers to victory

Adam Lyth (51 off 30) and Harry Brook (33* off 19) were the wrecker-in-chief with the bat for the Superchargers as they belted the Manchester bowlers all over the park to help their side get over the line with six balls to spare.

Running after the stiff target of 162, Lyth, the 'Hero of the Match' laid the foundation of the chase and put his side in the driver’s seat from the get-go.

Skipper Faf du Plessis (15) and keeper-batter Michael Pepper (12) couldn't do much and it came down to David Willey (29 off 21), Brook and David Wiese (15* off 6) to close out a win.

Brook smashed two sixes off Manchester's spinner Tom Hartley to leave Superchargers needing just 12 from 10 deliveries.

Wiese then took the matter in his hand and punched down a six over a long on before extorting a four off Australia quick Sean Abbott to accomplish the chase.

For the Jos Buttler-led outfit, Matt Parkinson was the star bowler as he picked up one wicket for 20 runs.

Jos Buttler's fifty take Manchester to a formidable total

Earlier, after being sent in to bat first, Manchester Originals suffered an early blow, losing Philip Salt to David Willey on the eleventh delivery.

Skipper Jos Buttler and Wayne Madsen then teamed up and kept the momentum in Manchester's favour as they added 84 runs for the second wicket before Willey struck again to dismiss the latter on a stunning delivery.

Amidst all the ruins, skipper Jos Buttler (59 off 41) stood firm and whacked a half-century studded with six boundaries and a maximum. His long stay on the crease was eventually intimidated by Adil Rashid.

The late blitz by Andre Russell (29* off 20) and Paul Walter (23 off 10) further empowered Manchester to a sizeable total of 161 for 4 at the end of the first half.

David Willey shone bright with the ball for Northern Superchargers as he grabbed two wickets conceding just 24 runs.

Brief Scores:

Manchester Originals: 161/4 (100)

Jos Buttler 59 (41), Wayne Madsen 43 (26);
