The race to be the best in Asian cricket will begin from the 27th of August, 2022. The tournament will be taking place at the UAE and for the second time it will be in T20 format.

India will be coming into the tournament with the intention of defending their title. The Asian teams will also look at this competition as an opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year in Australia.

India are yet to decide the final 15 who will be taking part in the competition. Here at OneCricket, we try and predict the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.

While selecting the squad, prime importance has been given to the recent performances in the T20I format. Also a player's importance to the balance of the squad has been considered.

Batters:

Rohit Sharma (C):  Rohit Sharma will be leading the team. He has also regained his form  scoring a half-century in the first match of the T20I series against West Indies. So, Rohit will be featuring as an opener for the team.

KL Rahul: It is expected that KL Rahul will be fit and running for the Indian team before the Asia Cup.  He had 616 runs to his name at an average of 51.33 in the latest season of the IPL. So, if fit he will walk in as the opener of the team.

Virat Kohli: Kohli is going through a lean patch for the last couple of years with the bat. But given the big stage and the experience of Kohli, he will definitely be a part of the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar Yadav has proved his worth in the Indian T20I setup with his recent performances against England and West Indies. Not only will he be a part of the team, the team management will be looking forward to some significant performances from the batter.

Wicket Keepers:

Dinesh Karthik: Dinesh Karthik has proven himself as an effective finisher in IPL 2022 scoring 330 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 183.33. His performances earned him a place in the national squad and he has been equally efficient in his role in the international arena. So, India will definitely entrust the role of finisher to Dinesh Karthik.

Rishabh Pant: Pant has proven to be the match-winner for India in more than one occasion. Although he is yet to translate his brilliant exploits to the T20I format, India will not risk benching a match-winner of his scale for an important tournament like the Asia Cup.

All Rounders:

Hardik Pandya: Since his return from injury Hardik has proved himself both as a batter and a bowler. He performed brilliantly in both the trades in IPL 2022 and has translated those performances in the international format also. Hardik will be a very important cog for India's performances in the tournament and also the balance of the team.

Ravindra Jadeja: Ravindra Jadeja's presence will give flexibility and dynamism to the squad. With Hardik and Jadeja in the team, the Men in Blue will be flexible to go for an extra specialist in the squad.

Deepak Hooda: Deepak Hooda has proved himself as a top order batter in the T20Is. Moreover he can be handy with the ball in hand with his off-spinners. He will be a dynamic addition to the squad.

Spinners:

Yuzvendra Chahal: As the Asia Cup will be taking place at UAE this time, spinner will play a big role for the team. Chahal with a brilliant IPL season under his belt followed by a similar run in the international arena is an automatic choice.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin has done well to bounce back in the shortest format. He has developed his batting to an extent, where he could easily be used as a floater. Hence, with his experience and improved batting ability, Ashwin might be an important inclusion in the squad.

Ravi Bishnoi: Ravi Bishnoi might work as the variety in the bowling setup for the team. With a proper leg-spinner and off-spinner already in the squad, Bishnoi's googlies can turn to be the deceptive factor that provides India with an extra edge.

Pacers:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a great comeback in T20Is for India. He will be important for India both in the beginning and towards the end of an innings.

Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Bumrah will probably be the first player to be selected in the bowling lineup for the team. How Bumrah performs for India will go a long way in determining the team's success in the tournament.

Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep has impressed the cricketing fraternity with his death-bowling abilities. Along with Bumrah, he can form a deadly combination for India in the death overs.
