Abbott extends his stay at Hampshire CCC


On Friday (5 August), the veteran fast bowler Kyle Abbott has agreed to extend his contract with Hampshire County Cricket Club for another two years. The fresh contract will now see Abbott playing for the Club until the end of the 2024 English summer.

Since 2014, the 35-year-old has scalped 397 wickets for Hampshire. While the experienced seamer took 17/86 against Somerset in 2019, which is also the fourth-best figures in the history of the County Championship. 

In the 2022 edition of the County Championship, Abbott is the top wicket-taker of Hampshire with 49 scalps in 11 appearances. In the last week of July, he took a total of 10 wickets against Yorkshire. 



Abbott hopes to bring more laurels for Hampshire

"I’m delighted to stay with Hampshire for another two years. We’ve got a great group of players and since joining in 2017, I’ve made some great friendships and memories; I’m very proud to call The Ageas Bowl my home. We’ve made some great strides as a team and hopefully we can continue our success in the years to come and get our hands on some more silverware," said Abbott.

Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White thinks the Club has struck gold to be able to secure the services of Abbott, which will be a boon to the youngsters. He added that Abbott is one of the most influential overseas cricketers in the English game. 

Currently, Hampshire sits at the second position in the County Championship 2022 Division One Table with eight wins in 11 league matches. They will next face Northants on September 5.
