Srikkanth backs Arshdeep Singh to feature for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup

Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth has urged his former teammate and national selector Chetan Sharma to pick left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Speaking on FanCode, the former chairman of selectors showered glowing praise on the 23-year-old, stating that the seamer is "simply outstanding" and that he will rule the T20I format in the near future.

Srikkanth said-

"He will be the future world no.1 in T20Is. He is simply outstanding. Arshdeep Singh! Make a note of it. He will be in the T20 World Cup team. Come on Chetu, please take his name also,”

Singh made his T20I debut during the England series last month and has thus far scalped six wickets in 4 outings at a meager economy of 6.52. The southpaw has been a consistent performer for Punjab Kings' in the past two seasons of the IPL, where his death bowling exploits won over not only pundits but also fans.

Arshdeep has been a revelation in T20s

Apart from his obvious skills while bowling at the death, it's Arshdeep's temperament and his ability to remain calm when put under pressure that has been a standout feature.

Even in the last T20I against the West Indies, when the likes of Rovman Powell attacked him in his 2nd over, the seamer came back really well to deliver just 5 and 10 runs in the 17th and 19th over respectively.

In fact, five out of the six wickets that Singh has taken so far in his T20I career have come at the death and he has conceded just 6.35 runs per over.

Apart from his ability to nail yorkers at will, the 23-year-old also uses the crease and the pitch to good effect. If the surface is sluggish, he tends to resort to hard lengths besides regularly targeting the wide of off-stump line.

With India already boasting of the best death bowler in the world in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, the addition of Arshdeep has only strengthened them in one of the toughest phase of a T20 match, and the duo could well prove to be a match-winning juggernaut at the World Cup.

India will hope that the rookie seamer continues his form in the forthcoming games.
