The Hundred will be an important tournament for English international star Jason Roy. With the T20 World Cup just a couple of months away, the opening batter will hope to make a statement in the domestic league.

The 32-year-old hasn’t been at his best lately in the shortest format of the game. He struggled to score runs against India and South Africa, where in a total of six T20Is; he ended up with only 76 runs.

The massive slump in form can hamper Roy’s T20 World Cup chances. Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes that the Hundred can be the real game changer for the batter.

Roy is an important player for England in white-ball cricket

Playing for Oval Invincibles in the 100-ball tournament, Roy is expected to get back to his form. Hussain mentioned that England will desperately want the opening batter to do well as he forms a crucial part of their white-ball plans.

"It's a big tournament for Roy. I think he loves the razzmatazz, the big occasion. He is obviously short of runs and there is a T20 World Cup around the corner.

“He is a bit streaky and will go through periods like this but then suddenly he could have a magnificent tournament in The Hundred and just remind everyone of his talent,” Hussain said in a conversation with Sky Sports.

Will Jacks hoping for a place in England’s World Cup squad

Meanwhile, Roy’s potential opening partner at Invincibles, Will Jacks also has World Cup ambitions. Jacks received his maiden call-up to the England team during the ODI series against Pakistan last year.

However, the young-gun is yet to make his debut. The 23-year-old is hoping to deliver exceptional performance in the domestic league to impress the national selectors.

"I think [The Hundred] is just like a bit of a bridge between county cricket and international cricket. It's a chance for someone like me to really push my game forward and push for the international (squad).

“I think obviously every domestic player has their eye on international cricket. The Hundred is an opportunity for that - it's great players in my team and teams I'll be playing against, so I'll be able to put my name out there," Jacks concluded.
