Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma after knocking a half-century
India's constant changing of captains this year has caught the attention of many, including former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif who claimed India might suffer because of their decisions. India recently announced squad for the Zimbabwe tour, for which Shikhar Dhawan has been asked to lead again after successfully guiding his side in One-dayers against West Indies.
It is worth mentioning that India have changed several captains this year, from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma, to Shikhar Dhawan to Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and even Jasprit Bumrah.
Latif said India is repeating the same mistake as Pakistan in the 1990s, which caused heavy instability in the side. In addition, trying too many options can hamper their preparation for the World Cup.
What Latif said about India having too many captains
Rashid Latif
"They haven't found a solid opener, nor do they have a stable middle-order. They just want a new captain. No captain is playing consistently for them. KL Rahul is unfit now; Rohit was unfit before. Virat is mentally unfit. So, they will have to think about it. They are changing so many captains.. they need a leader like Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli."
India should look to maintain a stable core
Instead of looking to make too many changes, India should try to play with the same core team and captain leading up to the T20 World Cup ahead in Australia. As they say, too many cooks can spoil the broth.
