In the latest turn of events, the former Australia head coach Justin Langer has turned down the offer of coaching Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League and has joined Channel Seven's commentary panel.

The former Australia Test opener's stint as a commentator will kick off with Australia’s two-match home Test series against West Indies, scheduled to be played in November later this year.

What transpired between Australia and Langer

Langer's tenure as the head coach of the Australia men's team came to end earlier this year in February when he was offered only a six-month contract extension.

The 51-year-old was reportedly not happy with the short-term contract as he wanted to continue coaching Australia’s men’s team long-term.

Langer, during his time with Australian men as a head coach also confronted several issues with some players reportedly not satisfied with his methods of coaching. Following all the chaos, Langer eventually decided to step down as national coach of the team.

The former Australia legend Ricky Ponting, who shares a strong bond with Langer had reportedly offered him to coach Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League but the 51-year-old turned down the proposal.

Langer, on joining the Seven's commentary team, reckoned that Test cricket has been close to his heart since his childhood and he is excited to be part of the commentary panel.

“Test cricket has been a part of my life since I was a little kid. Having been fortunate to have played and coached in the Test arena, I am now delighted to be allowed to commentate on the game I love, with a great company and team at Seven,” Langer was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

Langer has previously worked with Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and seen his team lifting the trophy thrice under his coaching stint.
